5Hello! I am Mrs. Beth Rivers and I am the General Music teacher at Walker Elementary School. I am very excited to have the opportunity to share my love for music with the next generation and I hope music will always be an important part of everyones' daily life. I was only 10 years old when my dad took me to my first Ohio State Buckeye's football game, and when I saw The Ohio State University Marching Band that day, the goosebumps came and I was hooked! I was in all of the bands, choirs, and musicals possible during my school days at Jewett-Scio High School in Scio, Ohio. I even learned to twirl the baton because I wanted to be the head majorette who got to blow the whistle and lead the band my senior year. After high school, I auditioned for the United States Marine Corps Band and was accepted as both an oboe and clarinet player. I spent 3 years in the Marine Corps and really enjoyed traveling and performing as a professional musician. I met my husband John (who was also in the band) during those years and we decided to get out of the military to start our family. We have been married for 35 years and we have 2 grown children, Jessica and Landon. I am a graduate of the U.S. Naval School of Music and I hold 3 degrees from Kent State University: Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction, Bachelor of Music in Education (magna cum laude), and an Associate of Arts (with distinction). I taught band in Plain Local Schools (GlenOak) and here in Canton Local (Faircrest and Canton South) for 13 years before happily transferring to Walker in 2016 to work with our youngest and cutest students! My music classes are fast-paced and busy and your kids will have so much fun they might not even realize they are learning!
